Get Certified – It’s Free!
If you are willing to supply the time and effort, the Nebraska Chapter will pay your fees to be certified! In other words, the first 25 members to successfully pass the Core and one specialty exam will be reimbursed the cost of the exams by the Chapter (approximate value is $200).
The chapter's goal is to increase the percentage of certified members in our chapter to 20%. To reach that lofty goal, we need an additional 20 to 25 individuals to pass the exams. Our leaders have also set a goal that at least 80% of the members serving as officers and board of directors will be certified by the end of the year.
The time investment in becoming certified is less than you may think. Experienced healthcare financial managers tend to spend 20 hours or less preparing for the Core examination, and 16 hours or less preparing for one of the specialty exams.
In order to assist in your preparation to take the exams, the Chapter has study guides available for your use. The self study courses help you independently prepare for the HFMA exams. There is one course for each of the HFMA exams and each course contains a series of guided readings followed by review questions. These intermediate-level courses assume the candidate has baseline knowledge of the materials covered. Otherwise, there are no pre-requisites for the courses. Questions on the certification exams are based on the material covered in these courses.
